"There is nothing more practical than a good theory."

-Kurt Lewin

Welcome to the thinking section of our website, with links to our research ans publications.

If you are a campaigner, researcher, policy-maker, or just want to learn about the theory behind our actions, this is for you.

Research + Reports

Research supported by the Open Society Foundation is a central pillar of our work in 2024-2026. Our small research team is undergoing a deep critique of core, faulty assumptions that block climate engagement and participation among the majority.

In turn, these inquiries have informed our campaign strategies and helped us to identify strategic leverage points for mainstream climate action.

Theory of Change

This is theory of change which describes overall conditions under which we (CMP) feel that mainstream serious climate action will emerge and what The Climate Majority Project, as an organisation, is specifically doing in order the help create those conditions in the UK and more widely.

It is not a theory of change in the sense normally used among NGOs, which lays out planned actions, their hypothesized effects and KPIs. Based on insights from social and organisational psychology, we work with four dimensions of mobilisation: truthfulness, cultures of resilience, serious action, and building shared understanding.

Our Book

Written as the early story of the CMP was itself unfolding, The Climate Majority Project explores the thinking behind this urgent intiative, and introduces it's theory or change. This collaborative anthology also features guest chapters from change-makers and organisers of citizen climate action in the UK; the people on the ground already making this vital work happen.

Classroom

Edited by Rupert Read, Liam Kavanagh and Rosie Bell, with a forword by Lord Deben (former chair of the UK's Climate Change Committee) and contribuytions from Helena Farstad, Chamkaur Ghag, Anthea Lawson, Marc Lopatin, Joel Scott-Halkes, Jessica Townsend, Joolz Thompson, Ben McCallen, Bel Jacobs, Carolyn Dare, Anna Hyde and Ruth Allen.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will support work by the Climate Majority Project to catalyse urgent citizen climate action.
